Delegates FAQ
Welcome to Focus!
So you're going to be a delegate on a training or team event here at Focus Training? We look forward to working with you and below we do our best to answer the questions you may be asking. If there is anything else you need to know, please feel free to give us a call!
What is Focus Experiential Training?
Focus is an experiential training company offering tailored programmes and workshops to meet organisational needs. We operate from a custom built training centre in a unique learning environment.
Where will I be going?
Bashall Eaves is a small hamlet in an area of historic beauty, right in the heart of the Ribble Valley. It's a small hamlet, comprising simply of a village hall, The Red Pump Inn and a phone box.
Just down the lane from The Red Pump, you'll find Focus Training. We're based at Clough Bottom - a beautiful organic working farm with 365 acres of land. The atmosphere is peaceful and friendly with a real sense of old-fashioned community spirit. Listen for the sound of laughing children ringing their bicycle bells and cows gently murmuring in the fields and you get the picture! Clough Bottom supports a number of different businesses: Organic Beef, Self-catering Holiday Cottages, Semi-Mature Trees & Shrubs and Horse & Pony Grazing. All these businesses create the backdrop for the perfect learning environment - a place to re-charge your thinking and develop valuable skills away from your workplace pressures. Here you can feel inspired and sense your spirits soar.
How do I find Focus?
Where does the training take place?
We have two specially converted 17th Century training barns. One of these has been reserved and prepared for your time with us. Please see your joining info to see where you will be going or drop us a line and we'll confirm which barn for you.
The Middle Barn has a large conference room with a beautiful stone flagged floor and galleried landing. The barn has been installed with the latest hi-tec computer equipment with video/DVD/CD and large cinema screen with surround sound. There are three syndicate rooms and a garden room with a log burning fire. This beautiful barn can accommodate up to 40 delegates.
The Outbarn is situated in a tranquil part of the site in idyllic surroundings which are perfect for quiet contemplation and training. The barn has a large conference room, two syndicate rooms, dining facilities and kitchen which can accommodate up to 30 delegates. Harry's Aberdeen Angus and Limosin cows often like to observe the training through the window!
Please Note: The centre is a no smoking environment.
What time do I need to be there?
We kick off promptly at 9:30am unless we've organised something different for your workshop, in which case it will be detailed in your joining information. If you can arrive a little before the start time that would be really helpful - and it will give you time to get a drink and have one of the bacon sandwiches (or veg alternative) we provide.
Are refreshments provided and how is lunch served?
In both barns we operate an informal system where we ask you to help yourself to tea, coffee and soft drinks throughout the day. There are also biscuits and fruit available. Bacon Sandwiches or vegetarian alternative will be served when you arrive here unless your company has made alternative arrangements.
Lunch is prepared by our on-site chef Rachael who cooks-up tasty and hearty two course hot lunches for each delegate. Rachael is given high praise for her food - particularly her pies! Click on the link to hear how previous delegates have rated Focus lunches. She's also great at catering for people with specific dietary requirements such as vegetarian, gluten free etc. Just let us know if we need to make anything specially for you.
Tell me more about the outdoor activities at Focus
We have 360 acres of beautiful farm and woodland. The activities are scattered all over the farm and we use the land for orienteering exercises too.
All our activities are inclusive and there is a role for everyone. Each one involves ‘doing things' but there is nothing too physical or demanding.
The activities are fun and challenging - they will engage you and make you think!
If you do have any medical conditions that you think we may need to know about prior to the event, please feel free to give us a call and talk in confidence, otherwise you can fill the details in on the health and safety form that each every delegate has to complete on arrival. We will make sure that you can be involved in some aspect of each activity, and have the opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way.
Where will I stay?
Please have a look at the joining information that we've sent to you. The joining information includes details of the overnight accommodation that has been arranged for you if appropriate. If you haven't received this two weeks before your event, please call us and we'll re-send.
We use a number of hotels and Inns on a Dinner Bed & Breakfast basis - all of which are very close to Focus. Here's the links to a selection the tried and tested accommodation:
What should I wear?
The centre is an informal environment and we suggest you dress casually and comfortably and bring some walking boots or wellies and waterproofs if you have them. If not, we have these in a range of sizes that you can use. It's worth bearing in mind that Jeans aren't the warmest of clothes so if you have an alternative we suggest leaving your denims at home.
It would also be a good idea to bring a change of clothes and please note that outdoor shoes/boots must be removed before entering the centre.
Who will I meet at Focus?
As well as the trainer running your workshop, there are a number of people on site who you are likely to meet. Have a look the Team Profiles to see who does what and to learn a bit about the Focus team.
I've been to Focus before - will I be doing the same activities?
We have a business objective of creating at least three new large activities a year and also a number of smaller and portable ones, so each time you come, we'll do our best to ensure that you have the opportunity to try out different exercises.
For further details on our bespoke training or Taster Days, please e-mail us on info@focus-training, use the contact form or call us on 01254 826 222.
We'd be happy to hear from you!
